But according to several people, he was too subjugated to the Patriotic Association and to Antonio Liu Bainian, president of the organization and originally from Shandong. The diocese is silent on the period from 1953 to 1978. It is probable that the bishop was dragged to prison or forced labor camps during the Maoist period and the Cultural Revolution.
