More than 500 Afghan women demonstrate against female abduction
The protest was held yesterday in Kandahar. The demonstrators, many of them wearing burqas, are asking for the liberation of Cyd Mizell, an aid worker who was kidnapped on Saturday with her driver. No one has yet come forward to claim responsibility for the kidnapping.

The woman disappeared along with three Afghan colleagues in the Kunar mountain region. NATO Special Forces are sweeping the area with the assistance of local tribal leaders. Many are hoping for a quick outcome but fear prisoners might be taken to Pakistan. A possible prisoner swap for a Muslim terrorist might be in cards.

A Marine Corps official said that at least two of the soldiers were recognized. A source for AsiaNews said that the gesture is part of "the horrors of a war that spares nothing and nobody" and speaks of the lack of knowledge of a land "that they are invading and occupying."

Responsibility for the crime is attributed to the Taliban, who have an extensive presence in the area. During their government, they imposed an absolute ban on any form of education for females.
Afghan Christians worried and distraught by aid worker’s death
Religiously-motivated murders are nothing new in the country. The murdered woman had been working with the disabled and refugees for years. The Sisters of Mother Teresa and the Pro-Kabul Children association are loved because they take care of “our poor.”

Afghanistan, kidnapped Indian Jesuit "is alive and safe"
This is according to the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sushma Swaraj, who adds that New Delhi is "working for his release". Fr. Alexis Prem Kumar, SJ, was kidnapped last June.
