Muslims storm Protestant school in Jakarta, scores of students injured
Over the week-end Muslim fanatics target a Christian school in the capital’s east side. Police evacuate the institute to protect students. Hundreds of police agents are now guarding it to prevent further violence.
Another young woman murdered in central Sulawesi
Poso violence spreads to Palu. A 22-year-old woman, Yanti, and her two friends on a motorcycle are attacked by three men, one of whom wielded a machete to kill.
Jakarta, more violence against students of Christian theology
The police chased the students of Setia from the temporary seat set up in former town hall in West Jakarta. A group of students and teachers is under investigation, five arrested. In July 2008 a Muslim mob had attacked their school, forcing the students to flee. The Christian building wanted by a construction company.
Jakarta on the verge of a civil war as moderate and radical Muslims battle it out
The Islamic Defender Front attacks Muslims demonstrating in favour of religious freedom. Overnight members of the Nadhlatul Ulama, Indonesia’s largest moderate Islamic organisation, attack FPI offices. The government’s weakness vis-à-vis radicals is criticised. President Susilo urges police to arrest the culprits.

Jakarta’s Christian governor is Islamists’ "common enemy" in upcoming elections
Campaigning for the post of Jakarta’s governor starts today. Election is set for July 2017. Outgoing Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, an ethnic Christian Chinese is seeking re-election. He is backed by the country’s second largest party, but opposed by radical Islamic parties because of his faith and for his fight against corruption.
Archbishop of Jakarta warns of attacks, urges people to remain vigilant and calls for controls
In a message sent via mailing list to Catholic priests and community leaders, Mgr Ignatius Suharyo warns of possible anti-Christian violence. At the same time, the prelate calls for "friendly and cooperative" action with others. Yesterday, two Molotov cocktails were thrown into the compound of a Catholic school in Jakarta. For a local priest, the attack is related to the celebrations that mark the end of Ramadan.
