Constructive meeting in Moscow between Russian Orthodox Church and Taiwanese representative
Russians and Taiwanese meet to discuss ways to develop relations between Taiwanese organisations and the Orthodox Church, including the pastoral care for Orthodox faithful living on the island. For some analysts, this rapprochement is a signal to Beijing, which does not recognise Christian Orthodoxy as an official religion.
Orthodox celebrate Lent in Beijing
Fr Alexy Kiselevic, from Shanghai, was invited by the local community to lead the liturgy during the first week of Lent. In the capital he also baptised two children, taught catechism to adults and heard confessions.

Growing Moscow-Beijing cooperation in energy field but suspicions linger
The two countries have agreed to build two major gas pipelines but not much progress has been made on the trans-Siberian oil pipeline to China. Arms trade is up, but suspicions linger. Meeting between China's Religious Affairs Bureau and Metropolitan Kirill is cancelled.
