London (AsiaNews) – Chinese hackers have apparently launched attacks on key British government networks, the third in a list which includes the Pentagon and the Bundestag. The news was carried by the British Guardian newspaper today, which cited anonymous government sources.
The widely read paper claims that hackers had launched online assaults against the network at Britain’s Parliament and the Foreign Office. Sources maintain that the authors are Chinese military. London so far has refused to comment.
The Guardian’s claims represent the third attack in two weeks by Chinese military. The Beijing Army, according to both the Financial Times and Spiegel, are also behind various attacks on the governments of Washington and Berlin. In all there were three cases, the charges were all reported by “anonymous” government sources.
China says the the claims are unfounded and has responded by offering increased collaboration with other nations in an effort to stop internet crime. In any case the Pentagon has repeatedly expressed its “conviction” that the People’s Liberation Army of China is working to make “web warfare” a viable weapon of attack.
