Manila (AsiaNews/Agencies) – A 6.2 earthquake has hit the Philippines today but there are no reports of injuries or damage for now. The quake struck at 1.30 pm (local time), causing panic among residents; its epicentre was located 27 kilometres west of Lubang Island in Occidental Mindoro at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres. The area is 135 kilometres southwest of Manila, but the tremor was felt in the capital.

In the capital residents said that buildings shook after the earth shook. Office and factory workers poured into the streets in a panic, fearing possible collapse, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said there were actually two quakes just seconds apart, with the first at 6.0 magnitude and barely under the surface, while the second was 33 km deep.

There was also no immediate warning of a tsunami.
