Libya, Gaddafi's son caught in the south
Libyan Transitional Council sources confirm the captured in Sabha. Saif al-Islam is now being held in Zintan. Nasser's son was on the run since last August and drove the forces still loyal to the old regime.
Tripoli (AsiaNews / Agencies) - Saif al-Islam, the second son of Muammar Gaddafi, was arrested today near the village of Obara in the south. This is confirmed by sources close to the National Transitional Council of Libya, who claim to have captured the son of Rais and heir-elect near Sabha in the southern region of Fezzan. Despite the fall of teh regime, the area is still loyal to the family of the Rais, who was killed last October 20.

To certify the capture of Saif al-Islam militants have posted some photos on facebook that portray him lying on mattresses with bandaged fingers. The news has sparked euphoria in the streets of Tripoli and Benghazi.

He escaped in August after the fall of Tripoli, after his father's death he was placed at the head of the former Armed Forces still loyal to the regime. In these months, the loyalist troops have continued to launch attacks and ambushes against the rebels. The son of Gaddafi, who is wanted by the UN International Tribunal for crimes against humanity, is reportedly being held in Zintan and according to the NTC authority will soon be transferred to Tripoli.
