Israeli Jew killed by the police at Western Wall
The victim, a 46 year-old, shouted "Allahu Akbar" and the police fired fearing he was a Palestinian.

Jerusalem (AsiaNews) - The security forces on the "Wailing Wall" shot a man dead this morning, as hundreds of Israeli faithful were praying at the Western Wall. Rescued by some nurses, the man died from his injuries.

The victim was a man  of about 46, and - according to police - ran towards them shouting "Allahu Akbar" as he was about to take something from his pocket. The killing took place near the public toilets, around 7:40 this morning.

The police spokesman, Micky Rosenfeld, has defended the actions of the police saying that they suspected that the man was about to carry out a Palestinian suicide bombing.

In the past there have been attacks against Jewish worshipers at the Western Wall. The place of prayer is heavily controlled by police and army. Tensions  increase every Friday because, while the Israelites pray at the Wall, thousands of Muslims gather for prayer at the Islamic Temple Mount, which overlooks the Wall.
