Saudi husbands to be taken to court by force if they refuse to grant a divorce
A new law, which is set to boost women's rights in divorce cases, comes into effect next week.

Jeddah (AsiaNews/Agencies) - Saudi husbands who refuse to grant a divorce to their estranged wives will be forcibly brought to court when new rules come into effect next week, Saudi daily Al-Watan reported yesterday.

A member of Saudi Arabia's Shura Council in fact proposed a new law to improve protection for divorced women at a time when the number of men filing for divorce is rising. The new law is also expected to speed up divorce cases filed by wives against their husbands.

If husbands refuse to divorce, pay alimony or give the wives custody over their children, they can be brought to court by force.
