West Bengal, four men arrested for the rape of religious superior of Jesus and Mary
Originally from Bangladesh they confirmed their involvement in the case. A week ago, police arrested two other men, considered gang leaders. They will also face charges of theft and money laundering.

Calcutta (AsiaNews / Agencies) - Police in Ludhiana (Punjab) yesterday arrested four men in connection with the gang rape of a 72 year-old nun, superior of the convent of the Religious of Jesus and Mary in Ranaghat (West Bengal), March 13. Those arrested are all from Bangladesh and are also accused of theft and sale of foreign currency for millions of rupees.

The four were identified as Aslam Sohad, Jinnat, Salim and Habibul. They were detained five days after the arrest of two other accused, Mohammed Salim Sheik and Gopal Sarkar, stopped between Mumbai and New Delhi. Police officials explain that they were able to identify the Bangladeshis thanks to the information and photos circulated by West Bengal police after the assault.

The police are still trying to understand the Bangladeshi role in the affair. However, those arrested were confirmed to be part of the gang that raped the nun and looted and desecrated the convent chapel.
