Suicide attack in Istanbul

Istanbul (AsiaNews) – A suicide bomber has blown himself up in a central area of ​​Istanbul, killing at least four people and wounding more than 36. At least seven of them are in serious condition. The area, Istiklal Street, is frequented by many tourists over the weekend. Three of the wounded were Israeli.

On March 13 in Ankara, another suicide attack killed 37 people. The explosion was claimed by TAK, Kurdistan Freedom Falcons, a radical militant group, in response to the Turkish military operations against the Kurds in Iraq and in the southeast of the country.

Last month, a car bomb exploded in Ankara as a military convoy passed, killing 28 people. The government suspects that this too was the work of TAK.

On October 10, more than 100 people were killed in a twin suicide attack on a peaceful demonstration by Kurds in Ankara. The attack was attributed to the Islamic State.
