Lombok island hit again by 7.0 magnitude quake

Jakarta (AsiaNews) - For the second time in just over a week, the island of Lombok, in the province of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has been hit by an earthquake.

The new quake occurred at 7.46 PM (local time, 6.46 am in Jakarta), affecting this popular tourist destination with a magnitude 7.0 quake on the Richter scale.

The epicenter has been identified in the eastern part of the island, at a depth of 15 km in the subsoil.

A tsunami warning was also issued.

The strong earthquake also spread the panic at the Ngurah Rai international airport in Denpasar, the provincial capital of Bali, the island near Lombok: the quake - lasting at least 10 seconds - knocked some construction materials to the ground.
