The Synod of Bishops dedicated to ‘Young people, faith and vocational discernment’ is currently underway at the Vatican. The cardinal calls for a daily Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory be to the Father, urges Catholics to share the message on social media.

Dhaka (AsiaNews) – Card Patrick D'Rozario, archbishop of Dhaka and president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Bangladesh, has written an open letter addressed to the young people of his country on the occasion of the inauguration of the Synod on young people, which took place yesterday at the Vatican.

"Dear young people I invite you to pray for the Synod," says the letter, written in Bengali, which was disseminated on social media and met with a positive response from the public.

The cardinal notes that the meeting of Church leaders was preceded in March by pre-Synodal meeting, attended by about 300 young people from all over the world. "All this reflects the interest that the Catholic Church has for you,” the letter notes.

The archbishop, who is not taking part in the event, cites the focus of the Synod: "Youth, faith and vocational discernment" to address Bangladeshis directly.

"I have a request for you. Pray for the Synod. Every day recite at least one Our Father, one Hail Mary and one Glory be to the Father. With prayer, you can feel that God and the Church love you. Love God and the Church too. Be active participants of the Synod in a spiritual way.

But that is not all. “I also have another request for you: share this letter with your friends and disseminate it so that other young people may also know about the ongoing Synod. God bless you".

Reaction to Card D'Rozario’s letter was positive. Ripon Costa, a 25-year-old Catholic, "did not know that the Synod on young people was going on at the Vatican. Now I know thanks to the cardinal's letter. For me it is a positive fact that the bishops and Pope Francis are thinking of us."

Noting the prelates’ interest in young people, he added that he was certain that the meeting “will help overcome the challenges of our life.”
