Super-modern control system at the Zhuhai-Macao-Hong Kong bridge

Border clearance machines will match facial, fingerprint and body temperature data to driver’s licence.

Hong Kong (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Anyone planning to drive along the new bridge from Zhuhai (Guangdong) to Macau and Hong Kong must submit to high-resolution facial recognition cameras, fingerprint matching and thermal-scanning technology.

The new sea bridge, the longest in the world, is in fact equipped with the latest artificial intelligence tools to speed up border operations to ensure that it will take less than a second with 99.5 per cent accuracy to clear customs.

The driver will be cleared to proceed if the fingerprints, facial image and car licence-plate images match pre-registered information in China’s immigration database.

The border clearance technology was co-developed by Intellifusion and Shenzhen CIMC Intelligent Technology.

For now, tests are being carried out at the Zhuhai border crossing. In the future, the same will be set up on the Hong Kong side.

The clearance machines will operate on both sides of the lane to cater to both mainland and Hong Kong drivers (Hong Kong is right-hand drive while the mainland is left-hand drive) and can automatically rise and descend to fit the hand position of the drivers.

The bridge was officially inaugurated yesterday but was open to the public only today.
