Mumbai (AsiaNews) After asking Hindus to procreate to avoid becoming a minority themselves by the growing numbers of Muslims and Christians, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief K Sudarshan sent a letter to the movement's thousands of volunteers and political activists.
In the letter he invites members to come to a series of meetings in various cities in early 2006 to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Hindu nationalist leader Madhavrao Sadashivrao Golwalkar, popularly known as Guruji. At the core of the debates will be Hindu demographic decline and social harmony.
''Muslims are growing and Hindus are declining in number," the letter said, whilst "crores [tens of millions] of rupees are being pumped into the country for conversion to Christianity.[And] there are demands to introduce reservation for converts from scheduled castes and tribes to Islam and Christianity. If such reservation is extended, conversions will go up manifold endangering the unity and integrity of the country. Should we remain silent spectators because conversions are done with political motives?" he asks.
What's more, political elites seem to be blind to the problem, Sudarshan believes.
"Political parties are now competing among themselves to make populist announcements and for immediate political gains but they don't have time to ponder over their long-term implications. Infiltration from Bangladesh to Assam, Bengal and Bihar is unabated but no government is ready to throw them [illegal immigrants] out,'' he charges.
Still, there is a silver lining. For Sudarshan, volunteers can make a difference and come to the rescue of Hindu nationalism.
"If volunteers, both new and old, put their heart into awakening society, the conspiracies of devilish forces can be foiled," he said. In fact, in highlighting the RSS's history, the letter emphasises the important role played by volunteers.
The letter, which was sent to all RSS branches in India and abroad, calls on each volunteer to devote at least one week to make Hindu conversions successful, get in touch with ten new people per year, and spend at least 15 days promoting the Hindu cause.
