Seoul (AsiaNews / Agencies) - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un vaccinated himself against Covid-19 with a Chinese developed vaccine. Harry Kazianis, director of the Korean Affairs section at the Center for the National Interest in Washington, reported the news yesterday explaining that the leader received the information from two Japanese intelligence sources, whose identity he did not want to reveal.
The vaccine has been made available to the Chinese government in the past three weeks; top officials of the regime and Kim's family members are also reported to have been vaccinated.
Kazianis' report, published on the 19FortyFive website, does not specify which of the experimental Chinese vaccines was supplied to the Pyongyang leader. Beijing is developing three to four medicines to fight the coronavirus. Although one of them has been tested on a million Chinese, the international scientific community is sceptical about China’s procedures given that it has not yet presented any data on the "phase 3" (the final phase) of experimentation.
The North Korean authorities claim that there are no cases of Covid contagion in the country. According to the South Korean government, in addition to keeping the borders closed, Kim isolated the capital and other provinces of the country, and imposed a ban on sea fishing.
