The "tragedy" for the Church in China: bishops who become "state officials", "do not listen to the Letter" and are afraid of "giving their life to the flock". But there are "bishops and priests [who] safeguard the true faith of the Catholic Church." Profound thanks to the universal Church.

    Army controls most of Marawi city in Mindanao


    Only a few small areas of the city remain under jihadi control. The Filipino air force carried out its first air strikes yesterday. About 2,200 people are still trapped in the combat zone. So far, 97 people have been killed. The fate of Fr Chito and 13 other hostages remains unknown. President Duterte’s imposition of martial law has generated fear of authoritarian rule.

    The decision was made by Myanmar’s Buddhist authority the Sangha Maha Nayaka,. The movement forced to remove its flags and banners by July 15th. Wirathu, a prominent monk in the organization, was banned from giving sermons for a year. The army rejects the allegations of ethnic cleansing launched by the United Nations.

    The "Interreligious Initiative in the Negev" was launched by representatives of the three monotheistic religions, inspired by two women who called for dialogue as a tool of peace. The group works with young people, schools, libraries and universities. Religions are a "solution" to, not a "cause" of conflict.

    Mosul, at least 105 civilians killed in US air raid


    The objective was two Islamic State snipers. The attack dates to March last. Raid ammunition  triggered explosives hidden in the building, causing it to collapse. In the lower floors were dozens of people dragged from their homes earlier.  Hidden bombs amplified blast damage at least four times. In the war, the US, like the Russians and the Syrians, kills civilians.

    Fasting and praying start tomorrow in Saudi Arabia, UAE and Lebanon. Other Mideast and North African countries are still waiting. Iran is waiting for Khamenei's announcement. Lebanon’s grand mufti expressed wishes of renewed peace and serenity. In the UAE, working hours are cut and advice given to drivers.

    Terrorists kill dozens in an attack targeting Christians


    According to Fr Greiche, a spokesman for the Egyptian Catholic Church, militants want to "purify Egypt and the Middle East of the Christian presence." The attack on the eve of Ramadan is the "the worst advertisement". It is a sad moment for Egypt and “Muslims who want to live peace". Tonight, prayers and services will be held in memory of the victims.

    ​Saudi Arabia and Russia get all 24 countries to agree. Production cuts will stay on until next March to boost prices. However, no long-term strategy appears to be in place to stabilise the market. Meanwhile, high cost US producers are grateful for higher prices that allow them back into the game.
