'Let's go to Myeongdong Cathedral!', a concert to celebrate 30 years of 'good news'

In 1988 the Catholic Peace Broadcasting Corporation and its paper ‘Good News, Brigh World’ were born. The anniversary was promoted in collaboration with the archdiocese. Card Yeom was also present. For him, Myeongdong cathedral “gives peace and holiness to anyone”."

Seoul (AsiaNews) – "Let's go to Myeongdong Cathedral!" is the title of the concert held on Saturday at Seoul’s historic cathedral to mark the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Catholic Peace Broadcasting Corporation (CPCB) and its paper Good News, Bright World.

Their mission is to bring good news to the Korean people, which the CPBC has pursued via radio since 1990 and cable television since 1995.

The CPCB promoted the event together with the communications committee of the Archdiocese of Seoul.

About a thousand people, both Catholics and others, crowded the area around the cathedral to listen to Christian-inspired music.

Performers included some famous Korean Catholic singers and other representatives of Contemporary Christian Music (Christian-themed pop and rock). Lawrence Cheol Park, a popular actor in the country, introduced the concert.

Card Andrew Soo-jung Yeom, archbishop of Seoul, and Mgr Benedict Hee-song Sohn, vicar general of the Archdiocese of Seoul and CPCB director, spoke at the event.

"I am very happy,” said Card Yeom, “that so many people, regardless of their religion, came to Myeongdong Cathedral.”

The church is one of the most important Catholic places of worship in the country. It stands on the site where the first Catholic communities met after they came together at the end of the 18th century.

For the cardinal, the cathedral "gives peace and holiness to anyone who visits, regardless of their religion".
