Asian Bishops on voyage of discovery in ever changing world of communication technologies

Even the Church recognises the increasingly important role these technologies play in social communications. In May a seminar will study the use of Internet and digital media in the spreading of the Gospel.

New Delhi (AsiaNews) – What these new forms of communication and journalism mean and how they influence our choices, experiences and future possibilities, their role within the Church’s ministry - how to write and inform of religious practise, of Christianity and other Asian religions in cyberspace- these are the main issues of the upcoming workshop promoted by the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences’ office for social communications (FABC-OSC).  Entitled “Converging Communications for Ministry in Asia and Modern Communication Technologies for the Church” the seminar takes place at Assumption University – Bang Na campus Bangkok, and runs from May 28th to June 2nd.

The workshops will deal with faith formation through the Internet and digital media, pastoral ministry in cyberspace; instruments such as chat rooms, blogs, text messages etc.., from broadcasting to podcasting and the possibilities they produce.   Delegates will also discuss: new tools for old concerns, culture, evangelization & interreligious dialogue and moral implications of cyberspace: ethics in Internet.

The executive secretary of FABC-OSC, Fr Franz-Josef Eilers states that “The workshop intends to reflect on the modern communication developments and their importance and possibilities for ministry in Asia”.

The sessions would be taken by experienced people in the field of communications such as Allwyn Fernandez, Angela Ann Zukowski, Christian Esguerra, Srisakdi Charmonman, Angela Ann Zukowski, Renato de Guzman, Moon-su Park, S.M. George and G. Patrick.

Moreover there will be an optional computer training programme for the participants to hone their computer skills.
