At the Shrine of Our Lady of Tewatta 4 thousand young people pary for their vocation
by Melani Manel Perera
Under the title "Here am I. Send me," the Archdiocese of Colombo celebrates Children's Day. An 'opportunity for children and young people to begin their vocational journey. Archbishop of Colombo: We have different talents, qualities and weaknesses, but above all we are precious and unique to the Lord. He calls us to his mission for this uniqueness.

Tewatta (AsiaNews) - More than 4 thousand children and young people from the Archdiocese of Colombo have participated in a Children's Day, entitled "Here am I. Send me." The meeting was organized March 6 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Lanka, by the Catechetical Centre of the Archdiocese. The meeting is held annually and aims to help children and young people to understand their vocation through theatrical performances and testimonies of priests and religious. This year it was held after the break in 2009 due to ongoing conflict between the Sri Lankan army and Tamil Tiger rebels. To increase the sense of unity among children Mgr. Malcolm Ranjith, Archbishop of Colombo and three other prelates celebrated mass in three different languages: Sinhala, Tamil and English.

"We are more than 6 billion people in the world and each of us is different - said the prelate during his homily - we have different talents, qualities and weaknesses, but above all we are precious and unique for the Lord. Precisely because of this uniqueness He calls each of us to his mission. " The prelate urged the children to follow the example of Samuel, St. Therese of Lisieux, Mother Teresa and St. John Vianney, who made their lives holy responding to God's call

"This was a great day for us - says one of the boys - we are making important decisions for our lives and this day helped us to choose the right path."

The day was also an occasion to reflect on the plight of the needy. During the offertory, the children donated money, toys and food to the poor children of various schools of the Archdiocese.

What is the true good of the Church in China
by Card. Joseph Zen Ze-kiunOn the eve of an important meeting in Rome on "Jesus our contemporary," Card. Zen asks all Catholics to help the Church in China (and especially its legitimate bishops) to emerge from ambiguity, to follow Benedict XVI and "rid" themselves of those organisms that are enemies of the faith (see PA, Bureau of Religious Affairs, etc. .), and that control and stifle the faithful. The Chinese Church is on the verge of a schism caused by "bargaining" between the Catholic faith and political power. The subtitle of this article (wanted by the author) is: "In dialogue with the Community of Saint Egidio and Gianni Valente of 30Days".

Msgr. Savio Hon: Freedom for arrested bishops and priests, is also good for China
by Bernardo CervelleraEven if the government does not give answers or to the Holy See, or diplomats, or to friends of the Vatican and China, it is important that "no one forgets about them." The Chinese government's official response when asked is always: "We do not know." "We need to pray first," "but we must also appeal to those who are holding them."
