Bartholomew: United Korea, the goal for all men of good will

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople is visiting the peninsula to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the Seoul Orthodox Church dedicated to Saint Andrew. Those who oppose reunification "do it for personal interests. But nothing should oppose the happiness of a reunited family ".

Seoul (AsiaNews) - The reunification of the two Koreas "must be the only purpose worthy of the men of goodwill of this nation. Those who oppose it do so for personal interests. Because there is nothing more beautiful and worthy than a family that is reunited,“ said the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew, during his visit to South Korea. The Orthodox leader is on the peninsula to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the Orthodox Church of Seoul, dedicated to Saint Andrew.

Bartholomew will meet tomorrow with the president of the South, the Catholic Moon Jae-in: "I will offer gratitude and support for his effort to reunify the Korean Peninsula, and express my wishes that the unification take place during his term". The following day, Saturday 8 December, the Patriarch will lead a special prayer service for peace in the church of Saint Andrew. Minister of Culture, Do Jong-hwan, will be present.

The peaceful and agreed reunification of the two Koreas "must be the priority of the political and economic leaders of the peninsula. Those who oppose it are moved by concerns, which however regard their economic and political interests and benefits. No benefit of any kind should come before love and happiness of a single (reunited) family ".
