The initiative brought together hundreds of priests, religious, seminarians and lay people from 51 parishes in the diocese between 12 June and 4 July. The goal was to train new catechists and involve them in spreading Christian values among the young and breathe new life in the Church’s mission.
Thanh Hóa (AsiaNews) – The “Spirit of Easter” campaign has ended. It provided participants with catechism sessions, biblical training courses and liturgical and traditional music seminars. Organised by the Diocese of Thanh Hoà (northeastern Vietnam), the three-week event (12 June-4 July) brought together hundreds of priests, religious and seminarians between from 51 parishes in the diocese.

First started in 2005, the campaign is a regular event for Catholics in Thanh Hóa who have set aside June as the month to renew the missionary spirit of Easter.

The initiative targets lay people who, through biblical reading, liturgy and education, become an important resource for priests and religious in their pastoral work among young people.

“Every lay person is invited by the Holy Spirit to contribute to the coming of God on earth,” Mgr Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh, bishop of Thanh Hoà, said.

“The vocation of the catechist is not only to prepare others for baptism, but also teach and strengthen the presence of the Holy Spirit in people’s lives. This is a grace that is recognised and encouraged by the Church.”

The “missionary spirit” of the campaign will continue until September with summer courses for students from local parishes.
