Caritas Sunday: The economic crisis drives to a greed without God and without hope

by Joseph Yun Li-sun
Bishop Ahn, president of the Bishops' Commission for Caritas, writes to the faithful: "You have to give to the poor as if you were a mother, and proclaim Christ to the world to rediscover the joy of the divine."

Seoul (AsiaNews) – As a result of the financial crisis "increasing numbers of people can not live their lives with dignity. These days, due to greed and avarice, people no longer find time for inner reflection on the divine: This situation should be reversed, with evangelization and charity among all people. " This is the meaning of the message signed yesterday by Mgr. Francis Xavier Ahn Myeong-ok, president of the Episcopal Commission of Caritas, for the 27th Sunday dedicated to charity.

The message is titled: ""For almsgiving expiates every sin (Tob. 12,9), your almsgiving remembered before God (Acts 10,31)". In the message, the bishop expressed his gratitude to those faithful who "live truthfully in their lives, with firm faith and sure hope for salvation. Those faithful who work for the evangelization of the world with divine love. "

In these times of financial crisis, "the danger is that greed and desire negate the will of man to seek God through an inner reflection on the divine. And this could well lead to a life without hope, without God in the world. Yet, if people knew the Father, no doubt they would choose to live with Him. This is the purpose of evangelization".

The good Christian, writes Mgr. Ahn, " should practice love for neighbours in order to know and love God. We should be a mother for our poor neighbours on behalf of the Church as the Church is our Mother. We should give to our neighbours, as it says in the Gospel, in proportion to what we have”.
