Catholic conference between Europe and China on artificial intelligence and faith

The international conference will take place from 30 August to 1 September centred on ‘Laudato Si 'and technoscience – Implications with focus on the Church in China’.

Sieburg (AsiaNews) – The 10th European Catholic China Colloquium opens tomorrow at the Katholisch-Soziales Institut (Catholic Social Institute, KSI) in Siegburg, Germany, until 1st September, centred on Laudato Si ’and technoscience - Implications with focus on the Church in China.

The issues to be addressed include digitalisation, artificial intelligence and other technologies, with particular attention on China and the Pope's encyclical on global ecology.

Discussions and updates will look at the situation of the Church in China, sinicisation and inculturation, as well as the present and future effects of the Sino-Vatican agreement.

Experts, scientists and scholars will come from Hong Kong, China, and elsewhere. AsiaNews director, Fr Bernardo Cervellera, was invited to outline some aspects of mainland China’s religious policy.

"The conference aims to explore what the Pope's statements mean for China in the context of its development and the technical perfection of its society,” said Father Martin Welling SVD, Director of the China-Zentrum e.V. in Sankt Augustin, Germany.

“It is also about the role Christianity and religions can play in the preservation of nature and [the] freedom of man," he added.
