An initiative of the Communication Foundation for Asia (CFA). Six days of coexistence that involved 48 young people from four high schools in the Filipino capital.

Manila (AsiaNews) - Christian and Muslim students together to get to know each other, exchange views and opinions and learn that it is possible to live together even if from different faith backgrounds.  That’s the aim of Peace Camp, an initiative created by the Catholic Churches Communication Foundation for Asia (Cfa) that involved 48 young people from the Manila high schools: Ramon Avanceña High School, Taguig National High School, Culiat High School and Nazarene Catholic School.

In the six days spent together, from April 27 to May 2nd, the young people shared their experiences, taking part in discussions and group encounters on the theme “Spreading the Message of Peace and Unity”. The Peace Camp program also had courses in art, photography, theatre and creative writing through which the 48 students were invited to express their ideas of peace and living together.  At the end of the six days spent together the young people presented the results of their days work to teachers, parents and members of the CFA.

Father Carlos Reyes, Executive Secretary of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Inter-religious Dialogue one of the project partners, states: “We are happy that the project initiated by CFA, has been instrumental in the promotion of mutual understanding and dialogue between the Christian and Islamic religions”.

Peace Camp organisers welcomed the success of this second edition of their initiative and are optimistic that the it will make a lasting impact on the students, their schools and their families
