About 60 people attend event organized by two human rights associations. There were also some Missionaries of the Immaculate, who suffered an attempted rape in the assault. The Provincial Superior: "We want a peaceful solution and justice."

Dhaka (AsiaNews) - About 60 people - including Catholics, Protestants, Muslims and Hindus - demonstrated yesterday at the National Press Club in Dhaka against the attack on the convent and church of Boldipukur, which took place on July 6. Organised by the Bangladesh Human Rights for Christians and Minorities (Hrbcm) and the Hotline Human Rights Trust (Hhrt), the protest was also attended by six sisters of the Missionaries of the Immaculate Conception, a congregation of women religious associated with the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME).

Police arrested 12 Muslims held responsible for attack. During the assault, three nuns suffered attempted rape. Now they are in their Provincial House in Dhaka, suffering from shock. The authors of the raid have stolen valuables - such as computers, laptops, and mobile money - for the value of 1 million taka (about 13 thousand dollars).

After the attack on the nuns, the religious congregation is worried. Sister Konica Costa, provincial superior of the Missionaries of the Immaculate Conception, told AsiaNews: "We run schools, health centers and dispensaries open to everyone. 70% of the users of these services are Muslims, yet they have dishonored our sisters. This is very sad but we want a peaceful solution and justice. We do not want a similar to attack happen again. "

"The sisters - reaffirms Dilip G. Bepari, president of Hrbcm - serve people of all religions and are committed to the good of the nation and society. We need to ensure their safety." In Bangladesh there are 56 sisters of Missionaries of the Immaculate.
