Dubai's new museum to be shaped like a policeman's cap

Plans have been approved to build a new police museum. For deputy police chief, the Dubai Police force is always looking for new things and unique modern designs.

Dubai (AsiaNews/Agencies) - A senior Dubai Police official announced plans to build a police museum in the shape of a policeman's cap.

The new, four-storey building will rise near the Al Qiyadah Metro station, easily visible to passengers as they walk by, said Major General Abdul Rahman Mohammad Rafei, director-general of the General Department of Community Services.

The new museum was the idea of Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, deputy chairman of Police and General Security and former Dubai Police chief.

For the latter, Dubai Police is always looking for new things, which is why he chose this unique modern design.

"We were on an inspection tour of one of Dubai Police's warehouses near Rashid Port where there was old and unused equipment," Maj Gen Rafei recalled.

Lt Gen Tamim "told me that it was a waste to destroy or leave the old equipment there to waste away, and said the new generations should have a chance to see and know about those memories,".

The old museum is home to many artefacts once in use by Dubai Police, including weapons it used and confiscated, as well as old uniforms, old telecommunications equipment, old radars and brochures. The facility also possesses a collection of photos documenting the force's history and that of its first female unit, and tries to educate the public on how law and order is maintained.

The new building will contain all of these items and much more. It will sport new research halls, where scholars will have easy access to materials and documentation related to the Dubai Police force.
