First effects of Trump's peace plan: young Palestinian dead, 12 Israeli soldiers wounded

At the presentation of the so-called "Agreement of the century", Christian leaders announced more bloodshed and tensions. This morning a car was driven into a group of soldiers in Jerusalem, 14 injured, 12 of whom were soldiers. A 19-year-old protester died in the clashes in Hebron yesterday, hit by a bullet. Israeli army: "a threat" eliminated.

Jerusalem (AsiaNews / Agencies) - As Catholic leaders of the Holy Land had announced, the "peace" plan between Israel and Palestine has generated "more bloodshed and tensions", as the first incidents between the parties were recorded in the past 24 hours.

In the early hours of the day, a car crashed into a group of Israeli soldiers in Jerusalem, injuring 14 people. Yesterday in Hebron, Israeli soldiers killed a 17-year-old Palestinian protester.

Eyewitnesses report that the car ramming incident took place this morning in David Remez Street, which is located not far from the Arab quarter in the eastern sector of the holy city, claimed by the Palestinians as the capital of a future state. 12 Israeli soldiers and two people who were in the area at the time of the accident were injured in the clash.

Israeli authorities speak of a "suspected" Palestinian attack, as has already happened several times in the past. However, at the moment there are no official confirmations and the identity of the person driving the car that crashed on the pedestrians is not known. A military spokesman added that the soldiers were making a tour of the city, where they had arrived days before to take an oath.

Hospital sources speak of one person hospitalized with serious injuries, while a second presents moderate injuries. Both were 20 years old. "The accident - a police source concludes - is being investigated as a terrorist act." The person driving the vehicle managed to escape and is wanted by the Israeli security forces.

Yesterday, meanwhile, the first Palestinian victim was reported since the presentation of the so-called "Deal of the century", the peace plan drawn up by the White House welcomed with enthusiasm by Israel, criticized by the Palestinians and a source of doubts and perplexities among the Catholic leaders of Holy Land. 17-year-old Mohammed al-Hada died after being shot in the chest with young bullets in clashes between young demonstrators and Israeli soldiers in Hebron in the southern West Bank.

Local witnesses report that the soldiers allegedly used real bullets and rubber bullets on young people, who responded by throwing tear gas. In reference to the incident, the Israeli army says the soldiers "identified a Palestinian ready to throw a Molotov cocktail at them and responded by opening fire to eliminate the threat."
