by Nirmala Carvalho

The rest of the delegation names have not yet been revealed. Chief Minister of Delhi and West Bengal set to attend, perhaps privately. The first, Arvind Kejriwal, has been working with the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, at the direct request of the Blessed.

New Delhi (AsiaNews) - The Indian Foreign Minister, Mrs. Sushma Swaraj, will lead the national delegation at the canonization of Mother Teresa, on September 4 in Rome. This was announced yesterday the spokesman Vikas Swarup, who explained: "Given the importance of the canonization of Mother Teresa, the delegation of the Government of India will be led by the Foreign Minister".

The spokesman added that the official composition of the group is nearing completion. For now, Arvind Kejriwal, chief minister of Delhi, and Mamata Banerjee, chief minister of West Bengal are certain to attend. Both accepted the invitation of the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta to attend the ceremony in the Vatican. For this reason, added Swarup, it has not yet been decided whether the two will participate in private or will be part of the official delegation.

The chief minister of the Union's capital met Mother Teresa in 1992, who asked him to work with the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta. He remained there for several months, before entering in the Indian Revenue Service.

During the ordinary public consistory of last March 15, Pope Francis declared that Mother Teresa of Calcutta will be proclaimed a saint on September 4. Together with the Blessed, t Joseph Sanchez del Rio, Stanislaus of Jesus Mary, Giuseppe Gabriele del Rosario Brochero and Maria Elisabetta Esselblad will also be canonized.

The canonization of the woman who committed her entire life to serving the "poorest of the poor" was expected as early as December 2015, when the Pope approved the promulgation of the decree recognizing a miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.
