Kabul, Taliban threats put assembly of tribal elders at risk
The Loya Jirga, a historic meeting of tribal leaders, due tomorrow will discuss the possibility of a dialogue with the armed opposition. Today, a car bomb exploded in a neighbourhood of the capital, injuring 4 people. Police yesterday arrested three suicide bombers.
Afghanistan, attack in Logar: 25 victims, mostly students
Local sources speak of a truck-bomb detonated near a police check point, near a school. G8 leaders confirm their intention to "promote development and security" in the country. They are asking the Afghan government "to ensure credible elections" for the presidential August 20.

Loya Jirga to decide whether 15,000 US troops stay after 2014
The grand assembly of elders will meet until November 24. Its members will discuss the security agreement with the US, which Washington wants to use in its fight terrorism. The assembly is also expected to discuss whether US troops will be subject to US or Afghan law.

Car bomb on intelligence headquarters in Lahore , 11 dead and over 60 injured
The attack bears the hallmark of al Qaeda and Pakistani Taliban. In the past the Federal Investigation Agency had already suffered two attacks. The residents had requested moving the headquarters, located in a residential area. In two and a half years Pakistan has recorded 360 attacks and more than 3 thousand victims.
