Korean Christians to defend human rights in the North and throughout Asia
Message by Bishop Boniface Choi, President of the Committe for Justice and Peace.
Seoul (AsiaNews) Speaking on the occasion of World Human Rights Day, Mgr Boniface Choi Ki-san, Bishop of Incheon and President of the Committee for Justice and Peace of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea, in a message titled 'The Culture of Love and Respect for Human Dignity' invited the faithful to make every effort to protect and enhance human rights by respecting human dignity, promoting the common good and practicing love for thy neighbour.
For this, Bishop Choi offered some practical suggestions. Christians must pay greater attention to the common good, engage in rational dialogue based on respect and love for those of different opinions, protect life from every abuse or harm, and be concerned about human rights violation by public authorities and about human rights in North Korea and other Asian countries.
Citing John Paul II, Bishop Choi said that "the Eucharist gives the impulse to the community for a practical commitment to building a more just and fraternal society" (Mane Nobiscum Domine, n.28).
