Repression of students resumes in Tehran, many young people arrested
The campaign of intimidation has begun in conjunction with the anniversary of the 1999 protest. There are special concerns over the fact that some of those imprisoned are accused of actions "against national security".

Tehran (AsiaNews/Agencies) - Iranian students continue to be a concern for the regime of the mullahs. This can be gathered from the charge presented by the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, which reveals the arrests over the past two weeks of more than 20 university students, 17 of whom are still in jail.

Those arrested are human rights activists, and the campaign against them was begun on July 8, the anniversary of the massive student protest in 1999, which rocked the more extreme wing of the regime.

"After 10 years of repression", says a spokesman for the group that follows the status of human rights in the Islamic Republic, "the authorities are still not willing to acknowledge the legitimate rights of student activists and their organizations". The latest arrests, according to the organization, are clearly part of a campaign "orchestrated to silence and intimidate the academic community". Concern has been increased by the fact that some of those arrested have been accused of actions "against national security", and some have been taken to the notorious section 209 of the prison of Evin.

What is the true good of the Church in China
by Card. Joseph Zen Ze-kiunOn the eve of an important meeting in Rome on "Jesus our contemporary," Card. Zen asks all Catholics to help the Church in China (and especially its legitimate bishops) to emerge from ambiguity, to follow Benedict XVI and "rid" themselves of those organisms that are enemies of the faith (see PA, Bureau of Religious Affairs, etc. .), and that control and stifle the faithful. The Chinese Church is on the verge of a schism caused by "bargaining" between the Catholic faith and political power. The subtitle of this article (wanted by the author) is: "In dialogue with the Community of Saint Egidio and Gianni Valente of 30Days".

Msgr. Savio Hon: Freedom for arrested bishops and priests, is also good for China
by Bernardo CervelleraEven if the government does not give answers or to the Holy See, or diplomats, or to friends of the Vatican and China, it is important that "no one forgets about them." The Chinese government's official response when asked is always: "We do not know." "We need to pray first," "but we must also appeal to those who are holding them."
