Telaafar, the fall of Daesh's Caliphate in Iraq

The last stronghold of the Islamic State conquered. At least 500 militants tried to flee. Many were killed by the Iraqi army; Others, protected by local mafia or peasants, have hidden or been transported elsewhere. Horrific stories of children and little girls in Isis hands. A torture chamber for women in Saad.

Baghdad (AsiaNews) - With the fall of Al Ayadiyya, north of Telaafar, the bloody chapter of Isis closes in Iraq, with Nineveh Plain now completely freed from Islamic terrorism. Two days ago, the Iraqi military commander had reported that he had killed the Wali (Prefect) of the Caliphate of Talaafar as he fled to the Syrian desert, and there remained few Islamic fighters who are fleeing Telaafar for the summit of Al Ayadiyya, the last stronghold of Daesh in Iraq.

According to our sources, about 500 Daesh fighters have attempted to flee on board vehicles, breaking the corridor and heading off to the northwest. Their escape was stopped by Iraqi military helicopters, which left over 200 dead on the ground. Following this failed escape attempt, it was learned that many Islamic fighters were still able to escape paying exorbitant fees to local mafia and passers-by who aided their escape or they were hidden by peasants in the area. Late yesterday, the Iraqi commandant of the operation "Nineveh we are coming" announced that he had taken total control of Kolabash, 6km west of Al Ayadiyya. Dozens of hostages held and used human shields and then abandoned by the escape of terrorists were taken by the army to refugee camps set up for this purpose. The stories told by Daesh survivors, especially those of girls and young children, are gruesome.

Daesh’s last show of strength in Iraq took place two days ago: two vehicles packed with explosive and driven by two suicide bombers from Bukamal, on the border with Syria, were neutralized and exploded by Iraqi soldiers before they could cause victims. A statement by the Iraqi military commander of the Eagle command also spoke of the killing 94 Islamic terrorists on the same day.

At the end of yesterday, the federal police were raiding Al Ayaddiya territory in search of the missing fighters. In a deserted district, with no forests or woods, one wonders where about 300 fighters of Isis are. Their only path of salvation would be the one north of the territories controlled by the Kurdish Peshmerga. The Iraqi press is wondering if there has been no connivance, or involuntary mistake on the part of the Kurdish Peshmerga.

What matters is that as of yesterday Daesh no longer controls one square meter of territory that it declared to be the "Caliphate", complete with sharia courts, local currency, passports and black flags.

A women's jail discovered by female Iraqi rescue forces in the Saad district has revealed once again the terror and treatment dealt out by the extremists: torture rooms and cells connected with cameras; Women's clothing stained with blood; iron and glass torture instruments are witness to the dark face of this place, where human feelings and human dignity were trampled upon and buried.
