Though 'sponsor of terrorism', North Korea will participate in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics

The decision of the International Olympic Committee. The Olympic Charter protects all rights and freedoms without discrimination. November 13, "Olympic Truce" adopted by the UN General Assembly and promoted by South Korea.

Seoul (AsiaNews / Agencies) - North Korea will participate in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics next year, to the detriment of the recent reintegration of the regime into the list of " states sponsors of terrorism". The decision was taken by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and broadcast on US television.

The IOC has supported its decision by stating that the Olympic Charter ensures the enjoyment of rights and freedoms without any discrimination. Added to this is the "Olympic Truce" decided by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, adopted in New York on 13 November. The decision was promoted by South Korea, host country of the sports event and first promoter of the dialogue with Pyongyang.

The 23rd Winter Games will be held in PyeongChang City between 9 and 25 February. Following this the Paralympic Games will be held on March 9-18.

The return of North Korea among the countries sponsoring terrorism was decided by US President Donald Trump on November 20, a move to exert new pressures for the communist country to stop the nuclear and missile development program.
