Umbrella organisation is created to lead young Catholic mission in Nepal
by Kalpit Parajuli
The Nepal Catholic Youth Movement plans to coordinate activities by various youth associations, which hitherto had no common reference point. It plans a series of activities ranging from the parish level to joint projects with worldwide youth movements.

Kathmandu (AsiaNews) – The Nepal Catholic Society has set up Nepal Catholic Youth Movement (NCYM) to supervise youth pastoral work and act as a point of reference for all Christian-inspired associations in the country, something that was hitherto lacking, in order to share activities, projects and journey of faith. The new organisation, which will be chaired by Fr Pulickal Augusty, was presented during a conference held at Kathmandu’s Assumption Church.

At the end of the Mass, Father Augusty said the goal of the newly-created youth organisation is to act as an umbrella organisation that will “coordinate the activities of various associations around the country.”

“We want to promote Christian spirituality among young people, passing on the basic values of our faith in everything we do, starting with social activities,” he said.

The NCYM is expected to provide a basis for discussing evangelisation, highlighting Nepal’s socio-cultural differences.

The movement operates at three levels, namely parishes, countrywide and international.

In the paper released during the conference the movement’s leaders stressed that they “belonged to Christ’ and their desire to work for “peace, justice, human rights, and cooperation among people interested in each other’s happiness.”

Young Nepali Catholics must be “witnesses of our time” and build “bridges between people and cultures, overcoming obstacles and barriers.”

The NCYM’s creation is the last step in a series of initiatives that bear witness to the vitality of young Nepali Catholics, whose first activities began in 1998 and were formalised in 2000.

Youth groups include a variety of subgroup according to activity or area of interest, ranging from farming and rural areas to students, but all inspired by Christian values and a desire to develop the task of evangelisation through concrete actions.

What is the true good of the Church in China
by Card. Joseph Zen Ze-kiunOn the eve of an important meeting in Rome on "Jesus our contemporary," Card. Zen asks all Catholics to help the Church in China (and especially its legitimate bishops) to emerge from ambiguity, to follow Benedict XVI and "rid" themselves of those organisms that are enemies of the faith (see PA, Bureau of Religious Affairs, etc. .), and that control and stifle the faithful. The Chinese Church is on the verge of a schism caused by "bargaining" between the Catholic faith and political power. The subtitle of this article (wanted by the author) is: "In dialogue with the Community of Saint Egidio and Gianni Valente of 30Days".

Msgr. Savio Hon: Freedom for arrested bishops and priests, is also good for China
by Bernardo CervelleraEven if the government does not give answers or to the Holy See, or diplomats, or to friends of the Vatican and China, it is important that "no one forgets about them." The Chinese government's official response when asked is always: "We do not know." "We need to pray first," "but we must also appeal to those who are holding them."
