Vietnamese take to streets against Beijing’s incursions in the South China Sea
Born on line, the protest sees people picket diplomatic missions in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The Philippine government announces a protest to the United Nations. United States also concerned as China sets its sights on Spratly and Paracel islands.

Naval exercises underway in South China Sea
Manoeuvres involving more than 1200 men started this morning off the island of Palawan (Philippines) and will last 11 days. They come in the wake of paramilitary actions by Chinese ships in waters which Manila claims as its own.

US experts: China is ready in case of conflict in the South China Sea
Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative releases new images showing that Beijing has installed weapons and missile defence systems on seven artificial islands built in disputed areas. "We did not know that they had systems this big and this advanced there,” says expert.

Sino-Filipino meeting over South China Sea fails
China’s foreign minister fails to find common ground with the Philippines’ secretary of state who is visiting China. Their discussions centred on the Spratly and Paracel Islands. A huge anti-Chinese demonstration is planned for tomorrow in Manila and the main cities of the United States, Canada and Australia.
Beijing to boost surveillance in East and South China Seas
Behind the banner of protecting "territorial sovereignty", a battle is underway for control of natural resources. The Chinese Navy intercepts a Japanese ship, seizes two Vietnamese fishing trawlers off the Paracel Islands. A ransom is asked for the release of their release.
