New Tsunami alarm
by Weena Kowitwanij
This was sounded this morning by the Natural Disaster Warning Centre. "In two days, there were 31 quake tremors. If the cause is the eruption of an underwater volcano, the risk of a Tsunami is very high."

Bangkok (AsiaNews) – A Tsuanmi alarm was sounded this morning in Thailand by the Natural Disaster Warning Centre. The director, Ploadprasob Surasawadee, said that from 9 to11 March, 2006 there were "unusual phenomena" about 500km off Ranong Province. "There were 31 tremors measuring between 4 and 5.3 on the Richter scale. There would be one of three reasons for this: a new underwater volcano, the eruption of a volcano called Baren or the eruption of another volcano. In the last case, the risk of a seaquake is very high."

Surasawadee warned Admiral Sathienrapan  Kaeyanon, commander-in-chief of Thailand's Royal Navy, who put all his men on alert.

All fishermen were invited to give "timely" reports to the centre and Navy personnel about any suspect phenomena.
