Dhaka (AsiaNews/Reuters) Monsoon rains have hit Bangladesh once more. For the past four days most of the country has been under water after what is ostensibly the country's worst bout with bad weather in the last 50 years.
Central and south-western regions were the most affected. In Dhaka 19 people lost their lives.
This week, according to official sources, the "average rainfall was 300 mm per day, the highest rate since 1952".
Yesterday, for a few hours, rain was less intense. In many areas businesses reopened as did schools, including in Dhaka, but the poor drainage system left many areas, especially roads, waterlogged.
The Dhaka Electric Supply Authority said the city's power supply was back to normal after being disrupted at the beginning of the week.
A tornado lashed at eight villages in Bamna (Barguna district) injuring 40 people.
Whether forecasters warn that more rain could fall in the next few days
Bangladesh was hit by floods back in July when more than 700 people died and millions were left homeless. Economic losses were then estimated at over US billion.
