The head of Saudi anti terrorism escapes al Qaeda suicide bombing
A terrorist blew himself up at the residence of Prince Muhammad bin Naif who suffered only minor injuries. The attack comes a few days after the announcement of the arrest of 44 militants and the seizure of weapons and explosives belonging to al Qaeda in the Kingdom.
Riyadh (AsiaNews / Agencies) - A terrorist suicide bomber tried to assassinate Prince Muhammad bin Naif, assistant to the Saudi Ministry of Interior, with a brief on security.
On the night of Thursday, Aug. 27, the bomber joined a few people allowed into the prince’s house in Jeddah, to pay homage at the beginning of Ramadan. The Saudi court said that the suicide bomber was a wanted terrorist "who had previously expressed a desire to surrender, presenting himself to the Prince."
According to the authority’s reconstruction of events, the suicide bomb only slightly wounded the Prince, who then appeared on television in the company of King Abdullah, who visited him in hospital.
The attempted assassination of Muhammad bin Naif comes just a few days after the announcement of the arrest of 44 militants and the seizure of weapons and explosives from al Qaeda in the Kingdom. The prince, among those in charge of operations against the terrorist organization, confirmed the fact by saying: "This attack will only increase our determination to eradicate terrorism."
