The Movement for National Land and Agricultural Reform greets 2011 with a message of hope to give dignity to all living beings and create a new world. To achieve this, land must be shared because “land belongs to all and nobody owns land”.

Colombo (AsiaNews) – In its New Year message, the Movement for National Land and Agricultural Reform (MONLAR) calls for the creation of world without hunger and poverty, where all human beings can have a place, where people “become a part of the solution and not a part of the problem.”

MONLAR is an alliance of some 70 organisations of farmers, environmentalists and trade unions fighting for meaningful change in Sri Lankan politics.

In its message, it noted that protecting and caring for the land is the first step because “land belongs to all and nobody owns land. Those who save and nourish land, save and improve soil fertility and protect life, life of all humans, all animals and all plants have the moral right to do so.” Thus, human beings will be co-creators, not just slaves to corporate interests.

“This will make all of us more human and humane, intelligent and efficient and ensure survival of all, instead of sacrificing a lot of people and of life for growth of only a few. It will make all religions more meaningful and wisdom prevail.”
