Amman (AsiaNews) Iraqis living in Jordan are still casting their ballot in the 12, heavily-policed, polling stations set up in their host country. Voting ends on January 30.
According to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), over 280,000 Iraqis are eligible to vote in 14 countries
IOM director Peter Erben said: "Our staff has been fully trained and are all in place to ensure that everything runs smoothly throughout the polling process"
To vote, Iraqis must cast their ballot in the polling station where they registered, showing their Out of Country Voting (OCV) registration receipt and a photo ID.
A driver who regularly travels between Amman and Baghdad said: "In just two days everything will change. We are waiting for this day when, with our vote, we can change our destiny. Then, perhaps, our work will change and we can bring our people back home".
Many Iraqis who voted have called upon their fellow Iraqis not to lose this historic opportunity and to join all the Iraqis living abroad in changing their country's future. The little time that it takes to vote will make a difference to the future of Iraq.
