Hong Kong (AsiaNews/Agencies) - A second blind Chinese activist has escaped state custody with help of relatives last Monday. Li Guizhi, 57-year-old Li Guizhi, was being held at a hotel in Shenzen (Guangdong) after she tried to enter Hong Kong to join a large pro-democracy protest on 1 July. She was able to get away last Monday, but reports about the incident surfaced only yesterday.
At present, Li is hiding out at an unknown location in Hebei, but her relatives fear police might arrest her again.
She had petitioned the authorities for years to investigate the death of her son, who died suddenly in 2006 and was quickly cremated by the authorities.
Hers is the second escape by a blind person after the incredible getaway of lawyer and human rights activist Chen Guangcheng, who now is in New York.
Chen's escape caused a diplomatic row between China and the United States.
