Bangladeshi government awards Catholic journalist

Porimol Palma, who studied at the seminary, received the award for an article on food security published in the most popular national newspaper. The reporter is a faithful practitioner, a native of the diocese of Rajshahi.

Dhaka (AsiaNews) - Porimol Palma, a Catholic journalist, has won the national 2014 DRU-Grameenphon Reporting award. The jury decided to award him for an article highlighting the importance of food safety (read here). On receiving the award, the reporter said he felt "very inspired".

Palma, 39, writes for the popular English-language newspaper The Daily Star since 15 April last. First he worked as a programmer in the Catholic section of the Christian Communication Center Radio Veritas Asia.

A former seminarian, the reporter is a native of the parish of Mariabad Borni, in the diocese of Rajshahi. In the past, Palm has won other awards, including a UNICEF Award 2005 of Bangladesh Press Institute and an international award for excellence in journalism in Canada, in 2007.
