The accused have confessed to having planned the violent attack. The High Court in Dhaka puts the police under investigation for negligence.

Dhaka (AsiaNews) - Agents of the Special Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested two persons for the gang rape of a tribal Catholic girl, which occurred on May 21 last. The accused are Lavlu (26 years old), driver of the minibus where the rape took place, and Tusher (35), the "mastermind" of the crime. The two have already confessed.

According to the reconstruction outline at a press conference by Rab spokesman Mufti Mahmud Khan, "the rape was a well-planned attack. During the preliminary interrogation, both confessed to raping the victim after dragging her into the minibus. "

Tusher approached the girl in the store of the mall where she works. The man convinced the girl to give him her phone number, and later called her under the pretext of making an advantageous job offer. When the girl finished her shift and went to the bus station to go home, the two grabbed her and threw her into the vehicle, where then they proceeded to rape her.

Meanwhile, however, police at the headquarters in Vatara – where the girl’s parents reported their childs attack - are under investigation for negligence. Accepting a petition filed by a human rights group, the High Court in Dhaka is investigating why the police were so slow to open the case.
