Jerusalem (AsiaNews / Agencies) - Israeli aircraft have hit several targets of the Palestinian movement Hamas in Gaza. The attack took place in the early hours of the day today, and is a response to overnight rocket fire from Gaza into southern Israel. Military sources state that "Wednesday night a rocket was launched from the Gaza Strip, with the intention of targeting civilians in southern Israel."
Military sources report that the missile fell in an uninhabited area near the city of Ashkelon. Initial reports say there are no casualties or injuries in Israeli territory or among the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip.
In an official statement the Israeli army said that "in response to this attack, the aircraft struck terrorist installations in the Gaza Strip."
In response, Hamas security forces say that the Israeli air force targeted a training center of the military wing of the movement, which is located in the al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza Strip, as well as a "communication center" in the north.
