Kuala Lumpur (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Wreckage from a plane found on the island of Reunion will be flown to France for examination to determine whether it belongs to the airliner MH370, which went missing more than a year ago.
Initial reports suggest the two-metre long object is very likely from a Boeing 777, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said. No other 777 is known to have gone missing at sea.
Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March 2014 when it vanished from radar screen.
The passenger plane was running a routine flight between Malaysia and Beijing on 8 March last year when it disappeared less than an hour after it took off.
Some 239 people were on board MH370 – 227 passengers from 15 different countries, as well as 12 Malaysian crewmembers.
The search for the plane covered millions of kilometres, but without success. Sixteen months after the event, the possible discovery of a part of the wing section could provide the families with answers that have so far eluded both the airline company and governments.
