Switzerland lifts some sanctions from Iran
Resumption of trade in precious metals, crude oil and petrochemical products. Other international sanctions remain in force. The Swiss embassy in Tehran has long followed US interests in Iran.

Bern (AsiaNews / Agencies) - Switzerland has lifted some economic sanctions against Iran after the nuclear deal signed by Tehran and the six world powers.

Citing "an important turning point in the nuclear dispute, which has lasted for 12 years," the Bern government has decided to lift the ban on trade in precious metals and the need to log all transactions involving petrochemicals. Sanctions on the transport Iranian crude oil have also been lifted, as well as all insurance policies taken out in connection with such transactions.

Switzerland has represented the interests of the United States since 1979, when the US and Iran broke off diplomatic relations.

The Swiss government has stated that "the vast majority of international sanctions against Iran, including those adopted by the UN Security Council, remain in force." It also declared that sanctions would be reintroduced if Iran fails to implement the agreement signed in Vienna.
