Beijing (AsiaNews) - Another explosion occurred this morning in Liucheng County, in the southern province of Guangxi, after a series of parcel bombs yesterday killed at least seven people and wounded dozens.
National media is full of news and photos on today's National Day of the Republic of China, and devote very little space to the attacks. Although the attacks are reported, no mention is made in of the possible authors in any way. According to some sources, a man of about 33 - identified as "Wei" - was arrested, but police have not confirmed this.
The bombs were posted at various locations throughout the county in normal packages, delivered by express mail service. The bomb this morning resulted in the injury of a person, maybe the recipient of the parcel, who opened it in a building five stories: the explosion caused structural damage to the building and the collapse of a brick wall.
The 17 parcels that exploded yesterday instead targeted different places: a shopping center, a prison, a local government office, a supermarket, a railway station, a hospital, a dormitory, a vegetable market and a health center.
Liucheng Public Security Commissioner Cai Tianlai, said during a press conference that some 60 packages identified as suspect, were currently in the hands of the bomb squad .
The national media do not make any mention of the possible authors or the reasons behind this trail of attacks. So far there have been no claims whatsoever. Suspicions point to Islamic terrorism or to the Tibetan issue. But it could also be a sign of internal party struggle: the explosion corresponded with the presence of Xi Jinping at the UN, which crowned him a great world leader, and his return home. Some experts already believe the disaster in Tianjin is connected to a showdown for power.
