Dhaka (AsiaNews) - The Holy Cross College in Dhaka, a Catholic high school run by the Sisters of the Holy Cross (CSC), this year hosted the annual Science Fair which was attended by students from 16 colleges in the capital of Bangladesh.
Now in its 13th edition, the Annual Inter College Science Festival 2015 awarded first prize to Dhaka Residential Model College, after a heat quiz competition. Second and third places went to Notre Dame College and Viqarunnisa Noon College.
The fair aims to "inspire" students young scientists, opening their doors to the future of technology giants of Silicon Valley.
This year the title of the Fair, which was held on 9 and 10 October, was "More questions, more chances." Sister Shikha Gomes CSC, director of the College which hosted the event, said: "We want to encourage the hidden talents of students through the Science Fair. Also here you can see many projects on display. This event will help them to go far”.
Moushumi Khatun, Muslim student, says: "I want to be a scientist and the Fair encouraged me to pursue my dream." A former student of the Holy Cross College adds: "Seeing the college lit up by the enthusiasm of young scientists, with colorful banners that decorated the corridors, made me remember the good times spent in this school. The hosts really prepared for this over three months and it shows".
The two days were marked by competition among students of various colleges participants, who competed in mathematics, science, physics, computer science, the Rubik's cube, in public debates and impromptu quizzes.
Projects in physics, chemistry, biology, geography, and exhibitions of various kinds were displayed, from biodegradable plastic, the mini-car mechanics, to the Bluetooth technology and renewable energy. Among the projects that have captivated the audience most was one that showed a method of building with bricks developed economically and ecologically and at the same time, ensures data protection.
