The All India Organisation of Imams met today with the Home Minister Rajnath Singh and announced they want to speak with the Chief Minister and religious leaders to restore calm.
New Delhi (AsiaNews/Agencies) – A group pf imams have stepped forward offering to act as intermediaries to stop the violence devastating India Kasmir. They met with Home Minister Rajnath Singh and have announced their desire to speak with the Chief Minister and other religious leaders to help restore calm.
"We had detailed discussions with the Home Minister on the prevailing situation in Kashmir. We have urged him to ensure that calm and peace returns to the Valley. Just like Muslims from any other part of the country, Kashmiris are also our brothers. We are with them and appeal them to bring normalcy and peace," Umer Ahmed Ilyasi of All India Organisation of Imams of Mosques said after the meeting.
Ilyasi confirmed that a group pf imams are willing to meet with teh JAmmu and KAshmir Chief Minister and other regional imams to guarantee peace as quickly as possibile. He added that they oppose all forms of terrorism and violence in all parts of the world.
The toll from the latest outbreak of violence in Kashmir is of 30 dead and at least 1000 injured.
